My Sheri Crafts #124

It's almost that time of the year... my favorite holiday!  Christmas is just right around the corner and had managed to sneak up on us again.  We are doing a "Funky Christmas" theme for My Sheri Crafts this week.  Make any Christmas project using non-traditional Christmas colors

I'm sure you've seen these cute little Christmas trees made from papers before.  I've always wanted to make one of them before so I used this week's theme to do so.  I used coordinating double-sided papers from K&Company and Martha Stewart's scoring board to create the tree.

I made quite a few of those pinwheel flowers you see on the card and stacked them up until I had a good height I was satisfied with.  I used intervals of 0.5" scored on different widths of paper strips starting with 0.75" to 2.00" in height so that the base is around 4.00"

The tree stands at around 7.25" in height with the flower / star on top of it

My Sheri Crafts #123

Design Team sister, Sandy, has asked us to make any project that is Fall / Thanksgiving related for this week's theme for My Sheri Crafts.  I decided to make a Thanksgiving layout to use for this year.  My family and I are going on a Thanksgiving cruise... we have always wanted to experience a major holiday on a cruise.  I will add a 5" x 7" picture once we get back and write in the journal

The papers are from Close to My Heart.  I made the "thankful" using SCAL.  The large branch is from Cricut cartridge: Home Decor and the leaves are from Cricut cartridge: Basic Shapes.  I used a white gel pen for the tiny dots on "thankful"

10-13 Sketch

Baby Shower Cards

I needed to make two baby shower cards for my two cousins.  A joint baby shower for them... one is having a girl and one is having a boy.

I found a sketch I wanted to use at the Cricut Card Forums hosted by Gisele and her extra credit for the challenge was to use one sketch for two different cards... this is what I came up with

I used the baby carriage cut from Cricut cartridge: New Arrival.  Cuttlebug embossing folders for the circles.  Stickles for the gold/yellow trims.  I decided to use the old style label makers for the sentiments

Thanks for looking!

Cards size: 4.25" x 5.5"

Supplies used:

Papers: Generations
Cricut cartridge: New Arrival - baby carriages
Fiskar circle punch and flower punch
Old style label maker

My Sheri Crafts #122

The theme this week at My Sheri Crafts, is something we sometimes have to make out of necessity... sympathy cards.  Design Team sister, Sarah had asked us to create a "sympathy" or "thinking of you" card.  I agree with Sarah when she says "I have found that I never have a sympathy card on hand when I need one" because I never do as well.  I make them as needed but this time... I have one ready which I really do hope I don't have to use

I created a stencil using Cricut cartridge: Jasmine for the "With Sympathy" so I could make the sentiment with heat embossing.  The roses are rolled up flowers from Cricut cartridge: Artiste and I inked them before rolling them up

Cricut cartridge: Artiste - rolled up flowers
Cricut cartridge: Jasmine - "With Sympathy"

Halloween Gift Bags

I found these small black paper gift bags at JoAnn's and thought they were the perfect size to make Halloween gift bags with...

My son was invited by his classmate to attend a "Frankenbash" party.  So, for the host, I thought it would be neat for my son to give him a treat bag.  I used a few Cricut cartridges for this project. Paper Doll Dress Up for Frankenstein, CtMH Artiste for the web, Sesame Street - Elmo & Friends Holiday for "Happy Halloween" and the small glittery spider is from Create a Critter 2

This next gift bag is far more simpler than the first because it was also a rush job.  So, I went with my favorite ghost cut from Paper Doll Dress Up and the "Boo" is from Wild Card

Baby Shower for Two

Joint Baby Showers

I received a phone call from my aunt a little over a week of a baby shower she had planned for her two daughters (my cousins).  Both are due to have their babies days apart of each other in December.  One is having a boy and the other is having a girl.

A week had passed by and she hadn't told me how she wanted the baby shower invitations to look like (and she never did say)!  So, I made the invitations a day before she had to send them out... this is what I came up with

I got the idea from looking at tons of images online.  The owls are from Cricut cartridge: Stamping and they are covered with Perfect Pearls.  The branch is from Cricut cartridge: Picturesque and the flowers are from punches.  The green leafy branch is a Spellbinder

This week at My Sheri Crafts, Design Team sister, Charlotte had asked us to create any project with a night time theme.  I immediately thought of the moon.  I originally wanted to make a card with two kitty cats staring at the moon but instead... I found a picture of this dark fairy

I thought it would be funny to use the sentiments "wish you were here" for the inside of the card.  I guess that makes the dark fairy sort of stuck all alone on the moon... hee hee

Time for another new challenge over at My Sheri Crafts!  Design Team sister, Sue, had asked us to create any project with a sewing theme.  At first, I was actually going to "sew" something like a small gift bag or even a Cricut cover.  Instead, I decided to make a card because I fell in love with the picture I found of a young girl sewing her clothes

The quote "I'm not buying that, I can make that!" is something (I believe) all crafters have said at least once in their life time.  I know I say it quite often and so does my mother... the one who taught me how to sew in the first place... and I just know you have too!

The stitching around the card is hand stitched using DMC cross-stitch floss.  The white flower is made from the same lace trimming around the card... yes, I sewed that by hand too!  LOL!

Birthday card for the Chief

"Chief" is a nickname given to one of my friends since he's part American Indian and he just happens to like the Kansas City Chiefs football team.  So, for his upcoming birthday, I figured I'd use the current theme from  My Sheri Crafts to create this card.  Using one of the images from American Indian Art was actually my original project idea for the Design Team but I went with the Dream Catcher for that instead

Very simple card!  I printed the image on photo paper then framed it on top of plain white photo paper.  I used the same crushed / torn paper idea from my Dream Catcher card.  The beads at the corner was something from my stash

My Sheri Crafts #119

September 27 is Native American Day and Design Team sister, Peachy, had asked us to make any project inspired by the Native American culture.  My original idea was to download an image to use on a birthday card, however, upon browsing through many pictures on the internet... I saw a lot of dream catchers.  So here is my first attempt at making a dream catcher and I made the card to frame it with

I went to JoAnn's to get the leather strips and feathers.  The hoop is actually one of my kid's plastic toy bracelet... shhhhh... I'm sure they won't miss it!  The webbing is actually DMC cross-stitching floss and the beads were something I already had.  I made the card simply as a base to give the dream catcher as a gift

Depending on what calendar you're looking at, some events and observances may not show up.  However, there are so many obscure "holidays" in the states that actually get overlooked!  I think they make a new one up every year!

I found out that August 10th is National S'mores Day and that August 30th is National Marshmallow Toasting Day... who knew?

So, what better way to celebrate these obscure yet yummy holidays?  A chocolate themed project over at My Sheri Crafts

Using one of my favorite stamps... here's my take on this theme

... and the inside of the card popped up

Best part of this whole project was getting to eat those chocolates in the picture

My Sheri Crafts #116

Yes!  It's that time of the year and Design Team sister, Glenda, had chosen the perfect theme for My Sheri Crafts to celebrate this glorious event!  Can you tell I'm excited for my kids to go back to school?

We were asked to create any project that included a school house or a school bus (although, I think that requirement is no longer in effect).  Anyway, I found an image that had both and decided to use it for my project.

I wanted to create a card to stick inside my daughters' lunch boxes on their very first day of school as a bit of a surprise.  However, instead of a card, I thought a miniature version of a notebook folder was more appropriate.

I used paper from DCWV: School Stack and I paper clipped the image to make it look more like a flyer.  The apple from Cricut cartridge: Serenade is popped up and I used white gel marker and liquid glass for the "shine"

The inside... I tried my best to mimic a pronged folder that my kids always have to use.  The class schedule is just a sample I used from last year's schedule.  I'll have their real schedules in there once we get them

I used mini silver brads for the prongs and mini silver eyelets for the loops

For My Sheri Crafts theme this time... I decided to create another wreath.  Design Team sister, Charlotte, chose a "travel" theme.  Any project that has to do with traveling.

Well, back in MSC Challenge #86, I did a project for my daughter, Zenica, to display the shells she collected.  She had so many shells that she asked if she could display some in a different way.

This wreath is what we came up with.  My daughter and I created this together

The wreath is Michael's Crafts and the greenery is left over from my project in MSC Challenge #110

My Sheri Crafts #114

My Sheri Crafts Design Team sister, Michelle, had asked us to make a summer themed project using the colors, black, yellow, and white.  Upon seeing the title and the theme requirements, the first thing I thought of was... of course... a bee.  However, I didn't want to make a project with a bee

So, this is what I came up with!  Inspired by the song "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"

I took 3 layers of flowers (each a little over 4.25" in diameter) and attached it to a circular card base.  I found the silhouette of a bikini online and used SCAL to cut it and decorated it with black glitter for the polka dots.  I thought I'd add the purple flower and the green flourish for a bit of color... it was too monotonous with plain black, yellow, and white.  The flourish is from Cheery Lynn and the quote from the song is computer generated

The current theme over at My Sheri Crafts is to make birthday cards.  I wanted to dedicate this particular theme to the youngest people in my life

For my cousin's daughter, Emma... turning 1 on July 14

For my friend's daughter, Aliza... turning 2 on December 19

For my niece, Emily... turning 3 on December 5

For my friend's son, DJ... turning 4 on September 30

... and for my son, Dax... turning 5 on August 1

My inspiration to create all the numbered birthday cards was from a previous shaped card I had made for a friend's son

My Sheri Crafts #111

It's time to make projects for Father's Day over at My Sheri Crafts.. with some embossing!

For this project, instead of a card... I made a little booklet!  Each page features each of our children.  I wanted to keep it fairly simple so that each could personalize their section with stickers, drawings, notes... whatever they can think of

The images are a bit blurry since they were taken with the iPad and I just take poor pictures in general.  The embossing is a bit hard to see but they appear on the "#1" and each of the letters on "DAD"

The theme this time around at My Sheri Crafts is to create any project featuring 3 dimensional flowers

For this project, I knew I wanted to make a wreath.  I bought one of the Spring wreaths Michael's Crafts was selling for 40% off and ripped it apart... well ripped off all the flowers (hot pink and purple daisies) and greenery off of the wreath.  I kept some of the greenery which had purple flowers attached to them (took all those off too)!  The flowers are rolled up flowers cut from Cricut cartridge: Artiste and inked at the edges.  I also sprayed them with home made glimmer mist but you really can't tell that there's any shine or glimmer to these flowers.  Oh well!

Arbor Day

Arbor Day (from the Latin arbor, meaning tree) is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant and care for trees.

That is exactly what we are doing at My Sheri Crafts... create any project that helps celebrate this day

For this project, I wanted to attempt something I haven't done.  I cut out a tree using Cricut cartridge: Pagoda to make the stencil of this tree then used embossing powder to cover it all up and applied heat.  The "celebrate" is also cut from Pagoda.  The beads are from my stash that's been there untouched for ages and the strings are DMC cross-stitching floss

Spring has Sprung!

The theme at My Sheri Crafts this time around is to create any project that represents "spring" to you

Well why not celebrate spring with a "spring" card using a "spring" template?  Hee heee... well that's exactly what I wanted to do so here it is...

I found the template for this "spring card" from Splitcoaststampers.  I used one of my large flowers as a center piece and decorated on top.  The scalloped ovals are Spellbinders and the sentiment is a stamp and heat embossed.  I know it's a little hard to see with the light glaring at it.  The butterfly and the flourish are from Cheery Lynn and the flowers are from Fiskars

Easter Celebration

It's Easter time again! My Sheri Crafts current theme is to create any project that celebrates Easter

Once again... I'm determined to use up what I have around the house and I found this basket.  It was originally from Edible Arrangements that someone had given me for a birthday (I think).  Anyway, I have decided to dress it up for my 2 year old niece

The image is a Precious Moment I found online and I will edit my blog to give the link once I can find this image again.  I used Cheery Lynn for the flourish and Spellbinders for the scalloped oval.  The image is colored with Copics and the sentiment is a stamp and colored with a glitter gel pen

Read Across America

It's time to celebrate reading over at My Sheri Crafts! Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually on March 2... on Dr. Seuss's birthday!  Our theme this time is to create any project that reflects reading in any way

I made four bookmarks... four because that's how much I could make using up these particular coordinating scrap pieces of papers

They are fairly simple but with the print on the paper... it seems a bit busy.  I suppose adding all the flourish didn't help make it look "un-busy" either.  Each bookmark has a quote I liked that I found online

I used Spellbinders for these flourish and a Fiskar flower punch
